Recently, a good friend of mine had asked for a customized illustration of her family. I had never thought of drawing family portraits before ( I don't know why) but I enjoyed the process so much that I started drawing more and more of these portraits which mean a significant deal to others. I realised that I love capturing the tiny details which make a stick-figure cartoon resemble the character of a real person and how each family is unique and different from others. Not only that, by asking questions like 'What is your mum's favourite colour?' or ' What is your family favourite activity?' gives me an insight into the lives of these different people or families I am tasked to portray and I feel like I have gotten to know them throughout the process. I appreciate all the detailed information given to me without the slightest hesitation as it shows just how much trust I have been given to produce a piece of illustration, which may seem quite simplistic at first glance but captures the essence of the family. I love how meaningful these illustrations are and how much joy I can impart onto others when they receive something which can be kept as a momento :)
For the Kwah Family, she has requested for an illustration in black and white. Her family loves to travel and everyone in the family carries the same trolley luggage. She has also wished for me to include her dogs back home into the portrait, whom her mother loves very much!
I also have created an account on Etsy for anyone who has an interest to have their family portraits done : https://www.etsy.com/sg-en/listing/242351012/custom-family-portrait-4-pax-a4-sized?ref=shop_home_active_11
Have a pleasant day!
