A family who loves the outdoors
I had a request recently on my Etsy page to produce a customized illustration for a simple family of 4 who loves the outdoors. This was the first job I had taken after the birth of my child 3 months ago as it got pretty hectic after he came into our lives. It touched me that this client made payment before even receiving any confirmation or reply from me. It showed that she trusted me and believed I could do a good job in producing something to her satisfaction. And it made my day when she wrote to me with such joy after receiving the illustration :)

The Hennebrys
This request came from my Etsy store 'Lineandshadow'. A family friend of the Hennebrys wanted to create something unique and special for the family as a personalised gift. I really appreciate the fact that she was very detailed in her descriptions and photo references, which minimized any misunderstanding and miscommunication especially since we only corresponded via emails. She was also very easy to work with and was open to suggestions and that made the process enjoyable for the both of us. I am glad that she loves the final product (sent to her today) and I hope that the Hennebrys would love it too :)

Couple's First Date
An update on the first date illustration posted on 11 August 2015. The drawing has been given to the boyfriend who then dropped me a personal note to thank me :)
'I really like the small details that you put into the drawing..Really like the effort put in... all the way down to my drink colour haha'
Well.. I'm happy that he's happy!

Full Colour Family Illustration- The Lim Family
The Lim family likes travelling and one of their favourite destinations is the beach. They love to just sit back and relax to the gentle breeze and sound of waves crashing at the shore. I felt I could relate to them as I really love the beach as well, especially those beautiful sunsets as the sun slowly disappears into the horizon. Hence I decided to create a more dramatic effect as the background, with a lot of activities happening at a distance. I also included some subtle elements which Priscilla likes i.e silhouette of a tree at the foreground, her shades and her hat while her kids in their favourite clothings. Her husband has really fair complexion which turns red easily in the hot sun. Below are some of the photos which were sent to me as reference :) What a beautiful family!

First date custom illustration
My latest assignment was to produce an illustration for a very sweet couple, a momento to capture their very first date. The boyfriend will be going abroad for a year to pursue his studies and the girlfriend wanted something special and meaningful for him to keep by his side. As this is a surprise gift, I will not be posting the end product here until it has been given to him :) But I would like to share the photos which were sent to me for reference.
I was really excited the moment I saw the photos as I love drawing intricate details with so many things going on at the same time. Also, as this was a place of paramount significance to the both of them, it is important that I captured it right without diluting the focus on the two of them, of course including the drinks they had ( she drank ice coffee while he drank 'some blue drink').
Stay tuned for the final illustration!

My family portrait
My sister requested a portrait for my very own family and here it is! There is nothing unique in this portrait, no special background nor activities and everyone seems to be doing his or her own thing. But this is home for me. My dad snoring away halfway through a movie we are watching together in the living room, my mum and ti-ti always talking about their games on the Ipads, my sister and I actually watching the movie, my husband on his tablet researching or probably playing soccer manager and Boy with his thin mattress on the red red concrete floor.

Family Portrait- Custom Illustration (The Kwah Family)
Recently, a good friend of mine had asked for a customized illustration of her family. I had never thought of drawing family portraits before ( I don't know why) but I enjoyed the process so much that I started drawing more and more of these portraits which mean a significant deal to others. I realised that I love capturing the tiny details which make a stick-figure cartoon resemble the character of a real person and how each family is unique and different from others. Not only that, by asking questions like 'What is your mum's favourite colour?' or ' What is your family favourite activity?' gives me an insight into the lives of these different people or families I am tasked to portray and I feel like I have gotten to know them throughout the process. I appreciate all the detailed information given to me without the slightest hesitation as it shows just how much trust I have been given to produce a piece of illustration, which may seem quite simplistic at first glance but captures the essence of the family. I love how meaningful these illustrations are and how much joy I can impart onto others when they receive something which can be kept as a momento :)
For the Kwah Family, she has requested for an illustration in black and white. Her family loves to travel and everyone in the family carries the same trolley luggage. She has also wished for me to include her dogs back home into the portrait, whom her mother loves very much!
I also have created an account on Etsy for anyone who has an interest to have their family portraits done : https://www.etsy.com/sg-en/listing/242351012/custom-family-portrait-4-pax-a4-sized?ref=shop_home_active_11
